A Dreamy Art Escape at Maison du Fort

From the moment our group of eight women stepped through the doors of the 300-year-old art house Maison du Fort, we were in for something special. Leesa, Alastair, and their lovely Cersei welcomed us not just as guests, but as if we were long-lost family returning home. Within minutes, bags were dropped, hugs exchanged, and laughter echoing through the stone halls.

For me, this trip was a dream come true—an art adventure in the French countryside, sketchbook and paintbrush in hand. My room was everything a writer (and occasional daydreamer) could hope for—quaint, charming, and deliciously peaceful. It felt like something Virginia Woolf herself might have approved of— “a room of one’s own” indeed.

Each morning, the birds served as our alarm clocks, chirping softly through the shutters as sunlight spilled across the old wooden floors. And then there was Leesa’s cooking—of my heaven. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were nothing short of divine. Every meal felt like a love letter to French country living. From fresh baguettes and local cheeses to hearty stews and delicate pastries, she spoiled us completely.

Leesa also organised the most wonderful outings—picnics under ancient windmills, sketching sessions in village squares, and mornings spent painting in abundant gardens. Every day brought something new to fill the senses—colour, laughter and the sweet scent of wild herbs drifting on the breeze.

And then there was Pip—the silent, furry member of the household who instantly became everyone’s comfort companion. Always nearby but never demanding, Pip had a way of knowing exactly who needed a little nuzzle or a quiet presence.

One of my personal highlights was Leesa’s tile printing workshop. As someone who already loves this medium, I was thrilled. We designed and carved our own tiles, then played with colours, papers, and layouts under Leesa’s expert guidance. The whole session was equal parts creative and chaotic—in the best possible way.

The trip itself was a kaleidoscope of experiences—vibrant markets, elegant wineries, peaceful gardens, and quaint windmills. We painted in church courtyards, lunched in rustic pubs, and wandered through private gardens that looked like something out of a Monet painting.

If you’re dreaming of a holiday that’s both restful and inspiring. I can’t recommend Maison du Fort enough. Leesa, Alastair, and Cersei have created something truly magical—a haven filled with art, love, and genuine care.

Whether you’re an artist, a writer, or simply someone in need of beauty and kindness, this art house has it all. Trust me—you’ll arrive as a guest, but leave feeling like family.
